Human Capital Development (HCD) is how people learn, navigate careers and do productive work: a $4T global market spanning education, recruitment, HR services and workplace tooling that touches every person on the planet.

Technology is a great accelerator for humanity, but the gap between those who can and cannot use it is widening. If AI represents the largest technological opportunity since electricity and the internet, it's the ability of people and organisations to adapt to it that will define its true impact on the world.

Historically, HCD has driven 75% of GDP growth differences between countries. Now, progress on the biggest challenges of our time – the energy transition, healthcare, industrial capacity, demographic changes – depends on a workforce with the right skills, in the right roles, with the right tools.

Equal access to skills, career opportunities and tools – HCD's core components – enables all individuals to participate in the productivity gains from new technology, leading to greater income, health and community participation for individuals.

We track companies across three interconnected pillars:

Learn · personalised learning that scales infinitely. Navigate · making every job transition AI-assisted. Work · retooling and reskilling the workforce for AI.

Exit landscape

Exit sizes have grown significantly, with the top 100 HCD exits averaging $1B in 2016–2025 versus $333M in 2006–2015 – driven by major tech acquirers, such as Microsoft and ServiceNow, displacing traditional buyers, larger IPOs, and higher volumes in Navigate and Work.

For companies founded since 2016, HCD returned 1.4x more liquidity per dollar invested than Fintech and 2.9x more than Climate Tech – while attracting a fraction of the capital.
